Salt free seawater cooling for PV-power plants and agriculture
IrrigationNets03 December 2019 - 4:21 PM We use salt free evaporation of seawater to generate some million m3 of cold wet air. With this we can cool down Agro-PV solar power plants and generate more additional energy, than needed to run the cooling device. At the same time we support agriculture with cooling and addional moisture. www.irrigationNets.com Video in Espanol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJdh50tWWdQ IrrigationNets Pitch Fundernation Chile.pdf - [1,6Mb]

Innovative Eco-Technologies for Resource Recovery from Wastewater
INCOVER20 December 2018 - 10:15 AM Taking into account the current global water scarcity and the expensive cost of wastewater treatment, INCOVER proposes a concept to move wastewater from a waste stream into a source of new added-value bio-products, contributing to circular economy. The idea is to develop innovative and sustainable technologies to recover energy, nutrients, and bio-products from municipal, agricultural and industrial wastewater. incover-page_A4-WEB_2en1.png - [9,87Mb]

Rain gardens in Sabadell
asm.fernandes21 November 2018 - 10:54 PM Providing educational enlightenment on rain gardens to Sabadell's population and boosting its making. The average monthly amount of precipitation has been recorded at around 60 mm. Wich makes it applicable in cities like Sabadell. By collecting the clean rainwater in people rain garden’s shallow depression they will make a contribution to preserving and conserving rainwater. Instead of sending clean rainwater to the sewer the water can then be soaked into the ground and possibly even help to recharge local groundwater systems.
Kalina DrenSka23 November 2018 - 2:57 PM Hi, this is an interesting idea! I saw something similar in Rotterdam - the city has created a skate and sports park that looks a bit like a pool and when it rains, it collects rain water. This way you have a drainage system, a way to collect reusable water and a nice addition to the urban environment. Maybe you can add something similar to your proposal? Here's the example: https://inhabitat.com/watersquare-benthemplein-is-the-worlds-first-public-water-park-fed-by-collected-rainwater/

Water Footprint Contest
Lora Simeonova21 November 2018 - 10:5 PM Water Footprint contest has as main purpose educate everybody about their direct and indirect water consumption through workshops and a competition between family teams and between schools. This contest will not only teach people how to reduce their water footprint but it will also help developing the local economy, the social interaction and it will rise more conscious citizens. Water Footprint contest´ wants to involve children because they are like a new scrapbook ready to be written, in other words, children are ready to learn and share this new knowledge with everybody, contributing to the education of everybody. Power contest_Sabadell.pdf - [110,44Kb]
Competition AND collaboration
Kalina DrenSka23 November 2018 - 3:52 PM This is a complex and well-thought-out idea. I like the competing part, however, I think the collaborative element is missing a little bit. Kids can be discouraged to reduce their water consumption after the competition, if their team is on the losing side. A way to avoid this is to introduce a collective goal for the whole school/ class. For example, the school says that the common target is to save XXX liters of water until the end of the school year. This way pupils will work towards the collective goal AND towards the individual goal in their families.

The Consumer Payer Adapted Principle
Simone Maciel21 November 2018 - 5:33 PM Apply different taxes for potable and non-potable water, in order to motivate population to save water consumption. The city responsables must improve the knowledge about the safe quality of non-potable water and the advantages on the rationalization of this resource. POWER Idea Contest for Sustainable Communities - english version.docx - [13,42Kb]
Kalina DrenSka23 November 2018 - 5:13 PM This is a very ambitious and complex idea that is connected to a lot of coordination on a municipal level. I like the idea with the taxes and I really liked that you consider education for the biggest consumers of water - different industry sectors. Could you possibly describe further how these educational and awareness building programs might look like for the different target groups?
Dodo20 November 2018 - 3:33 PM Green alert helps you create signals about sustainability, ecological and urban development issues in your city. You login, go to a virtual map, localize the place where you saw the problem, describe the problem briefly (e.g. "Poluted lake in the local park"), attach photos to prove your claim and submit it. Submissions are classified as recent, ongoing and solved. If you want to further engage with the problem you saw, you can create an action and spread it on social media to attract others and volunteer together to clean/repair the place/item etc. Or you can quickly inform thye local municipality about the problem via the platform, so that they take action. The idea can be implemented in every city, also in Sabadell, to help citizens keep the city clean and nice. For example, people in Sabadell can use it to report problems in Parc de Catalunya. Green alert_pic.jpg - [98,26Kb]
dribes14 December 2018 - 11:27 AM Nice idea! What about doing it through and app and geolocalizing it, so you can immediately report any substantiality issue without having to search for the exact spot on a virtual map?
App "Throw it!"
Petia Petrova18 November 2018 - 3:10 PM "Throw it" is an app which aims to help people to recycle better. It combines challenges, games, learning, discounts and helping nature - all in one place. It is a good opportunity because it helps you both to have fun and recycle while learning. Moreover, you can post a signal for a dirty place and prevent it to happen again. Share it with your friends and make the world a better place. The project aims to reduce water usage and to promote cleaning the environment, to create habits and to motive people to take care of nature. 46479621_250204152314065_7791750473777676288_n.jpg - [693,49Kb]
Tito Alexander Arzuaga Gonzalez05 January 2019 - 11:42 AM Petia. Very interesting idea. I like the fact that it is possible to relate with other while interacting and learning. I think that if you put GIS display for the performance of the app will improve it a lot! -Tito

Petia Petrova18 November 2018 - 3:40 PM Very good idea, thank you, Mathias!
Very nice idea!
Mathias18 November 2018 - 3:17 PM One thought I had: How about adding a feature that allows people to help each other bringing large/bulky things to the recycle area? For instance if I have some peice of furniture to throw away and I knew about a someone in my area who wants to get rid of his/her old broken TV, then I could just offer to pick it up and take it with me...
App for shops which help with recycling
Mariya Nedkova18 November 2018 - 2:47 PM Hey, do you want to participate in a project that helps in the increase of plastic recycling and collection of some dangerous products after the end of their life like batteries and phones. Let's build an app which shows us all the shops and markets in the area where you can return some of your clothes or plastic bags. This will create an excellent reputation for you and your business. It will also help the environment in Sabadell, by reduction in the raw materials which are used in the manifacturing process due to the recycling. And also the gift voucher may be electronic or to be in the form of a cloth bag or glass bottle for example. IMG 20181118.jpg - [2,55Mb]
Petia Petrova18 November 2018 - 3:10 PM Great idea!
App to piggy bag on?
eduardo18 November 2018 - 3:0 PM May be this app can be done as a feature on google maps or facebook, that way the development expenses are reduced.
ksenia18 November 2018 - 2:58 PM Great idea! Apart from reputation building, what could be the benefit to the companies to engage with the application and provide recycle points?
Recycle Benefits Calculator
svbg18 November 2018 - 2:40 PM This is a state-of-art novel application which allows to received part of your spend money back to you in forms of bus tickets and gits vouchers. To take benefits of the app you have to download it, register, collect your plastic, paper and glass rubbish. When you collect enough amount entre it and the app will let you know when and where you can return it. Our innovative idea is based on complex mathematical calculator which calculate not only your benefits (bus tikests, vouchers) based on amount of return rubbish but also your behaviour under environment. The use of application increase the amout of recycle plastic, paper and glass rubbish. So, this allows to increase the quality of water (less rubbish), save trees (recycle paper) and use less oil for plastic production. IMG_0548.jpg - [1,73Mb]
dribes14 December 2018 - 10:59 AM Really interesting! As part of your benchmarking, have you checked what is doing Istanbul where you can use recycled bottles to pay the subway? https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/17/world/europe/istanbul-vending-machines-recycling-subway.html
This idea hits two targets!
eduardo18 November 2018 - 2:50 PM This idea hits two targets, it does not only help with recycling, but it also encourages users to ditch the car in favour of public transportation. I think as a follow-up, the authors could consider explaining what it means that the saving calculation is done via complex mathematical calculations.
ksenia18 November 2018 - 2:46 PM Great Idea! I think people will be really motivated to take part in it. However, how does your business model look like?
Angel Tomov18 November 2018 - 2:35 PM The basic idea is to develop recycling habits into the citizens as well as the firms in the city. Items that must be recycled(cosmetics, medicine, batteries, chargers, plastic etc.) A website with 8 sections will be built, with them being as follows: 1. Info(basic info about the campaign) 2.Firms(how firms can participate in the campaign) 3.Calculator( this will be a calculator, which will calculate what you will receive based on your items that you want to recycle. ( the prizes can be food vouchers or transport tickets) 4. Application( this will be with 2 version, for kids and for adults. The kid's version will be more like a game and will show the kids the effects of not-recycling your trash on the environment and on the water specifically, where as the Adult version will be with Best Practices and more detailed information.) 5. Electric trucks( to be used to pickup recycled trash from citizens in different locations in the city) 6.google maps( this will show different places that accept recycled trash) 7.subscription(this will send all interested parties, the results of the campaign, best practices, future ideas etc.) 8. Leaderboard( this will show the highest contributing people from the region. With each month the highest contributor will be awarded with a certificate from city counsel for the most sustainable person). Picture..jpg - [2,28Mb]
ksenia18 November 2018 - 2:48 PM Great idea! How can you motivate the children to use the application? For which age group is that thought? Would that be a part of their curriculum?
spyker18 November 2018 - 2:34 PM Recycle.io (RIO) aims to make the recycling of common household items convenient while still being beneficial to the environment. Information for the type of recyclables and collection points, through the integration of Google Maps and POI, are presented to the customer through either a web page or a mobile app. Having more people recycling plastics reduces the volume of harmful, non-degradable items in the water sources and open oceans. Recycling clothes can, potentially, save the water used during the manufacturing process, same goes for glassware. Recycling expired pharmaceutical drugs and cosmetics can save them from being dumped in the water network, thus saving cost & effort for water filtering for further uses. Recycle.io (RIO) is a simple and cost-effective way to easily deliver the goal of convenient recycling. 46426329_286353015329239_4355219682798600192_gt.jpg - [90,69Kb]
Mathias18 November 2018 - 3:10 PM I like the idea! And it would indeed be important that people recycle more in any city. Yet, I think, it's also important that you provide more information about what they can/should recycle. Maybe an easy-to-use wizzard could be added to find out what item you currently have and then guides you through the right drop-off for recycling at the right location?
ksenia18 November 2018 - 2:50 PM Great idea! I think that is something any city really needs! If people knew where to find information about recycle bins, they would recycle more. Would that also entail recycling many different kinds of materials? If so, what could be the potential risks?
Want to help saving lots of gallons of water from producing clothes? There is a platform for that! You can donate old clothes or get your new findings using the New-Old-Trend platform.
Stefaniya18 November 2018 - 2:28 PM Random facts about clothes: - 700 gallons of water is needed to produce a single T-Shirt! - Only 20% of textiles globally are recycled, the other 80% are lost in landfill. Well, 700 gallons of water is a lot! Imagine how much will be needed for one complete outfit. If we reuse our clothes and double their life from one to two years, this can reduce the harmful emissions with 24% per year. Let's try to save some water and emissions by simply exchanging our clothes. It is easy! 46479331_194527111422821_3524183394088910848_n.jpg - [155,89Kb]
Very interesting approach.
dribes14 December 2018 - 10:51 AM As you say, people usually buy from a 2nd hand shop because it's cheaper. But it's a really interesting to promote 2nd hand from a sustainable (saving water, emissions, etc) point of view
Stefaniya23 November 2018 - 9:14 AM Thank you for this comment, Ksenia! The usual second hand shops are still shops at the end and the idea of sharing and social impact is very lightly touched. People buy from the second hand shops mostly because it is more affordable or because they can find some designs that are not available on the market anymore. My idea is to exchange clothes for free, raise awareness of the productions's harmful impact on the environment and build a community of people who are open to share.
ksenia18 November 2018 - 2:53 PM Great idea about the clothes exchange! I think there are some intiatives in this direction ! And what is the difference to a usual second-hand shops?
Give and live
borveltos18 November 2018 - 2:25 PM "Give and live" decreases the number of expired household items and through recycling increases the longevity of yourself and your planet. The project provides you the opportunity to help recycle batteries, clothes, shoes, phones, cosmetics and many more while earning yourself discounts at stores, points on the web and most importantly, a reduced footprint on the environment. Recycling helps to reduce the consumption of water and energy during new production cycles and to prevent water contamination (eg. from flushing used cosmetics or pharmaceuticals). We should use existing resources wisely! 46419055_2035115973215110_6401166313896542208_n.jpg - [262,65Kb]

Platform for sustainable water network
gandesa14 November 2018 - 7:44 PM The region of Gandesa, Spain is very rural and agriculture is one of the biggest concerns here in terms of climate change. At the moment, the water distribution system is pretty outdated and faces a leakage issue. Our idea is to develop a platform that sensitises, educates and engages all stakeholders involved in the area (farmers, citizens, administration, experts) to implement a smart pipe network.
